Entry Requirements
- Passport and visa are required.
- Personal appearance required — contact the consulate directly.
- JIDS can no longer assist with Nigerian visas.
- Note: Passport must have at least two blank visa pages (side by side). Pages marked “Amendment” are not valid for visas.

Photo Requirements
- Your head must face the camera directly with full face in view.
- Neutral facial expression or natural smile, with both eyes open.
- Taken in clothing normally worn on a daily basis.
- Taken in the last 6 months.
- Plain white or off-white background.
- 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm).
- Head between 1–1 3/8 inches (25–35 mm) from chin to top of head.
- Printed on matte or glossy photo quality paper, in color.
- No glasses.
- No hat or head covering (exceptions for documented religious or medical reasons).
- Full face visible; no shadows on face.
- No headphones or wireless hands-free devices.
If Traveling for Business
- Invitation letter from Nigerian host company (not from a church) plus company Certificate of Registration (Nigeria).
- Host shall accept full immigration responsibility.
- Cover letter from U.S. company on letterhead, signed by someone other than the applicant, including financial responsibility details for U.S. sponsor and Nigerian host.
- Work involving contracts in Nigeria may require a Temporary Employment (STR) visa; call for details.
- If applying for work permit, telecommunications cable is mandatory.

Accompanying Minors
- Application signed by both parents/guardians.
- Notarized consent letter signed by both parents/guardians.
- Original and copy of the minor's birth certificate.
Non-U.S. Citizens
- Include a copy of your U.S. Green Card (permanent residents) or your U.S. visa (visa holders).
- Visa requirements vary by nationality. Call JIDS at (914) 592-2760 for assistance.

Personal appearance: contact the consulate for the most up-to-date requirements.
- Applicants under 65 must apply and pay online. You’ll receive an email with your appointment and receipt.
- Biometrics in person and submission of all documents/passport are required on your appointment date.
- Apply here: https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/visa/freshVisa (choose New York processing).
- You will receive an interview date/time by email or at application submission.
- Print and sign every page of the application while applying (no “print” button on site). Print the payment receipt too and bring all to your appointment.
- If JIDS will pick up your passport after approval, provide a pickup permission letter (you may still be called for biometrics).
