Entry Requirements
- Passport and Visa are required. You may be eligible for Electronic Visa — call JIDS. Electronic is for tourism only.
- Business visas still require processing at the Consulate.
- They must have confirmation that a visa has been approved before departure and must have a letter of invitation issued by the hosting organization. Pre-approval from immigration is required.
- Must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online travel site. E-confirmation from an airline or travel company showing departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure to and from your visa destination is acceptable with a valid record locator.

Photo Requirements
- Your head must face the camera directly with full face in view.
- Neutral facial expression or natural smile, with both eyes open.
- Taken in clothing normally worn on a daily basis.
- Taken in the last 6 months.
- Plain white or off-white background.
- 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm).
- Head between 1–1 3/8 inches (25–35 mm) from chin to top of head.
- Printed on matte or glossy photo quality paper, in color.
- No glasses.
- No hat or head covering (exceptions for documented religious or medical reasons).
- Full face visible; no shadows on face.
- No headphones or wireless hands-free devices.
If Traveling for Business
- Attach a supporting letter from the host company in Ethiopia.
- Invitation from host in Ethiopia; pre-approval from immigration in Ethiopia for business travel is required.
Washington application is accepted for New York.
Health Requirements
- Vaccination of Yellow Fever is required.

- If you’re a United States Alien resident, a copy of your Green Card must be attached to your application.
- If you’re a United States Visa holder, a copy of your U.S. Visa must be attached to your application.
Additional Information
Valid Signed Passport
- Applicant must submit their current signed passport. Applicant must also include a color copy of the information page of the passport.
Note: In order to obtain visas, passport must have at least two blank visa pages side by side. Pages marked “Amendment” are not valid for visas.
- Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid on arrival.
However, JIDS recommends your passport is valid for at least six months past the last day of stay from international destination. JIDS can help you renew it if you need more validity. If you require passport services, please refer to our passport services section.
